چکیده

Abstract We evaluate the Cretaceous stratigraphy and carbon sequestration potential of northern Baltimore Canyon Trough (NBCT) using >10,000 km multi-channel seismic profiles integrated with geophysical logs, biostratigraphy, lithology from 29 offshore wells. identify map six sequences resolved primarily at stage level. Accommodation was dominated by thermal non-thermal subsidence, though sequence boundaries correlate regional global sea-level changes, record is modified igneous intrusion, active faulting, changes in sediment supply sources. Our stratigraphic maps illustrate a primary southern (central Appalachian) Early source that migrated northward during Aptian Albian. During Cenomanian, sedimentation rates NBCT increased depocenters shifted landward. show deposition occurred three phases: (1) earlier paleoenvironments were terrestrial indicated variable amplitude, chaotic facies, serrated gamma heterolithic sandstones mudstones microfossils; (2) Albian to Cenomanian deltaic blocky, funnel-shaped, gamma-ray logs clinoforms characterized continuous high-amplitude reflections well-defined terminations; (3) younger marine shelf, inferred mudstoneprone lithologies, peak values well foraminiferal evidence. Long-term transgression maximum water depths Cenomanian/Turonian boundary correlative Ocean Anoxic Event 2 followed regression relative fall. porous permeable highstand systems tracts are high-volume reservoirs for supercritical CO2 storage confined overlying deep mudstones.

Palynofacies-based sequence stratigraphy of the Upper Cretaceous strata (Abderaz Formation) in east of Koppeh-Dagh Basin, Northeast of Iran

The Upper Cretaceous strata were studied in a composite stratigraphic section named here Padeha-Baghak section in east of Koppeh-Dagh basin, north east of Iran. In this study, palynostratigraphy, palynofacies and depositional environment history of Abderaz Formation were integrated with sequence stratigraphy. Determination of sea level history and sequence units of the Abderaz Formation using s...

Facies, sedimentary environments and sequence stratigraphy of Cretaceous deposits in the northwest of Azerbaijan, Iran

The Cretaceous deposits in Morakan, located in the northeast of Khoy, a town in western Azerbaijan province, Iran, are primarily made up of carbonate rocks. These deposits, which are of 717 meters thick, lie on the clastic facies of Jurassic and are covered with beneath the pelagic beds of the Upper Cretaceous. To investigate the facies, sedimentary environment and sequential stratigraphy of th...

Sediment supply and climate change: implications for basin stratigraphy

The rate of sediment supply from erosional catchment to depositional basin depends primarily upon climate, relief, catchment slope and lithology. It varies in both time and space. Spatial changes in erosion rates due to variations in lithology are illustrated by contrasting rates of drainage divide migration away from faults of known ages. Time variations in relative sediment supply are extreme...
